D= De-escalate: Regulate the physical body first; executive function cannot engage while dysregulated.
E= Emotions: Accurately identify and articulate the exact emotional state being experienced.
S= Source: Trace backwards to locate the precise root trigger or environmental cause.
I= I Own My Response: Accept complete personal accountability for the behavioral response.
G= Generate Options: Brainstorm constructive, prosocial alternative paths forward.
N= New Tools: Actively apply self-compassion, recognize real progress, and leverage skills.
E= Effort & Consistency: Commit to long-term repetition, patience, and continuous intentional practice.
R= Readiness: Execute a fully intentional, self-designed choice aligned with long-term
